» How do I plant my Vegetable Garden?
Once you have carefully planned out your garden, it is time to plant! The day before you intend to plant, water your garden thoroughly. This will get the soil nice and damp and ready for planting. Also, place a tag on each area of the garden that lists what the seed is and when it is expected to be ripe. These details can be found on the back of the seed packet.
Use a straight piece of lumber as a guide to open a ‘V’ shaped furrow with the corner of your hoe. Set the depth to the recommended requirements that are found on the seed packet. Then, tear the corner of the seed package off and use your finger to tap the package lightly as you move down the row, carefully distributing the seeds evenly. If the seeds are larger, you can place them individually in a row if you prefer. Be sure and plant extra seeds in each row, because some of them will fail to germinate.
Then, cover the seeds with fine soil and firm it over the seeds. Next, water thoroughly using a gentle spray. This is very important because you want to keep the soil moist until the seedlings are up.
