Imagine never having to mow your lawn in the middle of July or having to fill in holes dug in the yard by your precious pooch, and yet, at the same time, having a perfectly manicured lawn. Impossible? Not so. Synthetic grass can provide the best of both worlds: a great lawn with little worries. The grass was developed in the 1960’s with the goal of providing exercise venues for city kids. Later known as “Astroturf,” synthetic grass had its first major debut in the Houston Astrodome, as it quickly became known. In football especially, the product has faced criticism as many players have suffered from apparent turf-related injuries. However, the product has improved dramatically over the years as engineers have found ways to make the turf more shock absorbent and thus, less dangerous to players. In the end, the synthetic turf industry continues a long-standing relationship with athletics with more and more different types of sports investing in the multi-million dollar playing fields. Numerous companies exist that supply artificial turfs to all kinds of athletic teams all over the world. Many of these companies have branched over into the residential landscaping market and have seen a tremendous growth in sales in recent years. The idea of never having to weed, water, mow or fertilize your lawn is quite appealing to more and more home and business owners.
