The frequency of mowing depends entirely on the time of year, temperate zone and weather conditions. It may also depend on how groomed you want your lawn to look. Once grass begins to wake from dormancy it is always good to give it a few weeks to get fully green.

Once spring gets underway it is not out of the ordinary to mow several times (2 to 3) a week. This is assuming there is a sufficient amount of rainfall. The frequency of mowing will gradually decrease during the hot parts of summer. In Southern states you may stop mowing altogether.

After the summer drop off it is not uncommon to get back to mowing twice a week, depending on the fall rain. It does not hurt grass to mow it more than once a week. Actually, the more you cut your grass the healthier it is for the lawn. Cutting the grass stimulates growth in the roots. It also gives your lawn a sharp look.
