Popular shows like CSI and 24 capture our attention with vivid police chases and Special Forces operations. We see brave men and women pursue the enemy and usually, win. Chances of survival in such violent situations- whether on TV, in real life or real war--are greatly increased with the use of body armor. Body armor has been around for a long time. For centuries, men and women have sought to protect themselves in combat and even in hunting. But, long gone is the cumbersome armor worn by Roman gladiators or the Knights of the Round Table. Today's body armor is the designed using the latest inventions in plastics and fiber technology. The most common kind of body armor is the bulletproof vest. However, there are different types of body armor, including concealed, correctional, tactical, and the kind that is used in military operations. These different types of armor are designed to protect the individual against the types of bullets and blunt force trauma they are most likely to encounter in their given field of public service. Nothing is truly 100% "bullet-proof," but these tools of protection have been lifesavers for thousands and thousands of users.
