» Calm and a Bit Humid
Sounds like a Caribbean weather forecast, but actually, constant vibration tends to affect red wine’s sediment and is thought to affect all wines aging process. Therefore, you should take that six bottle wire wine rack off the top of the refrigerator as soon as possible (it’s also normally too warm up there as well). Also, try not to store the bottles in a way that they will have to be moved to get to another bottle. Ideally, a bottle will not be moved until you are ready to open and enjoy it.
Humidity can have an affect on the bottle cork. If the area is very dry the cork can become dry and lose its sealing abilities and allow air to enter the bottle, which affects the wines aging process. Excessive humidity doesn’t really affect the wine, but with time can cause the label to show signs of deterioration. An ideal humidity is 70% but a range of 50-80% should treat your wine just fine.
