» Bottle Position
As a general rule, most bottles of wine should be stored in the horizontal position, with the bottom of the bottle slightly elevated, so as to ensure the cork is being kept moist by the wine. This will help keep the bottle airtight and defend against the entrance of nearby odors and ambient air. If you are going to be serving an older wine you should consider standing it upright for a couple of days prior to opening, to allow for any sediment to find its way to the bottom of the bottle. You can decant the wine upon opening to remove the sediment.
