» Kitchen Carts Types and Styles
There are as many different types of kitchen carts as there are colors of the rainbow. No matter what particular style and use you are searching for, there are plenty of choices and variations to suite your needs.
· Utility: This is your everyday kitchen cart. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Most come on wheels so they can easily be moved around the kitchen and the additional features are very basic. The tabletop is generally made out of an inexpensive material. You will commonly find some sort of storage that can include shelving, sliding wire baskets, or drawers. Many times they will come with metal hooks that can be used to hang utensils or potholders off the sides of the cart.
· Microwave: These carts are designed specifically for microwave ovens. Many of us find that our microwaves either take up too much counter space or there is not an electric outlet within reach to plug in the appliance. If this is the case in your kitchen, you might want to opt for this type of cart. Oven carts can come with or without wheels and typically have a storage feature such as a cupboard type cabinet built in under the space for the microwave.
· Butcher Block: Instead of pulling out the old wooden cutting board, you can pull up your butcher-block cart and start chopping and dicing away. These carts are designed with a thick wood block tabletop for use in meal preparation. Once again, many of these will include an area under the butcher block for storage, generally shelving.
· Island: Kitchen islands are the big thing in modern design and for those of us who don’t have this feature in our homes, we can still enjoy all the perks of those who do with the kitchen island cart. This cart is a combination of several styles. Many times they have multipurpose tabletops made of granite, marble, or similar surface, and also include a butcher-block top as well. Some of the additional features you might find include towel racks, utensil holders, shelving or another type of storage, stainless steel construction, and even wine racks. Island carts are larger than the everyday utility cart and in many cases they are made out of more durable/heavy weight type materials. These carts can also be on wheels, most of all which have locking casters that enable the user to secure the cart in one location. Other islands have a thick table-leg style bottom that give the cart the look of a built in kitchen island.
