Griddles vs. Panini Grills and George Foreman Grills

A popular item in many cooking stores and retail stores today is the George Foreman Grill, which is basically the same item as a panini grill. These grills are very similar to griddles, but they have slightly different purposes.

Panini grills and George Foreman grills have a tilted cooking surface. The tilt forces grease to slide away from your food, so it automatically removes the grease from your food. In addition, panini grills become hot on both sides, so you never need to flip your food; simply close the lid and the grill cooks both sides of your food.

On the other hand, panini grills and George Foreman grills do not serve exactly the same purpose as griddles because they have a ribbed cooking surface. Consequently, you cannot cook eggs or pancakes on these grills because the liquid falls down between the ridges. These alternative grills work great for chicken breasts and hamburgers, for example, but they are not as versatile as are griddles.
