Griddle Safety

Remember that griddles are hot electric appliances with a large open surface. Consequently, keep children away from the griddle and be careful using it yourself.

Use common sense in cooking with your griddle. Make sure both your griddle and countertop are completely dry before you begin cooking. Attach the plug to the griddle first, and then insert the cord into the wall outlet. In addition, after you finish cooking, make sure the griddle has completely cooled before you disassemble or wash it.

From a safety standpoint, treat your griddle much like you would a charcoal or gas grill. Use oven mitts to protect yourself, and read the owner’s manual before using the griddle. Unlike a charcoal or gas grill, however, an electric griddle does not have a visible flame, so if you are absent-minded, think of some way to remind yourself when the griddle is heated. Otherwise, both dinner and your fingers might end up burned.
