Much of the beauty found in Kentucky is rugged – the wildlife found throughout the cliffs and waterfalls, among the wilderness, etc. Because of this, an excellent option for lodging while in Kentucky is a cabin in the woods. A step up from camping, but still simple enough to allow you to commune with nature, cabins are available throughout the Bluegrass state for a variety of prices. Here are a couple of examples:
• Cave Run Lake offers several campgrounds and cabins to those who would stay there. Located near the Red River Gorge Geological Area, you can easily spend the day hiking and backpacking and then return. There are also places to fish, hunt, and boat (which is very popular at the local marinas!). Horseback riding is even available. The smallest cabins have one bedroom; the largest has four bedrooms. And each is fully furnished with a stove, refrigerator, toaster, etc.
• The Jellystone Park in Cave City is located near Mammoth cave and has beautiful Amish cabins, log cabins, bunk houses, and more. In addition to exploring the many caves in Cave Country, the Mammoth Cave National Park, the onsite waterslide, and the petting zoo also offer simple but fun things to do.
