The price of topaz, like any gem, is dependent on the quality of the stone. However, a few generalizations can be made. Blue topaz, the most common variety seen in jewelry today, has been produced in such quantities that it is generally available for $25 per carat for rings. Larger sized may be slightly more. The natural blue topaz price has essentially dropped due to the huge production of treated blue topaz.

Colorless topaz, from which blue topaz is produced, is available in sizes up to 100 carats and larger, and sells for less than $8 per carat. Brown topaz is similar in price.

In contrast, precious topaz or imperial topaz, in rich orange colors obtain prices in excess of $1000 per carat for 10 carat or more sizes. The most valuable topaz is a rich pink or red color, and can reach $3500 per carat. These are rare in sizes about 5 carats.
