In the jade cutting centers of Canton, Beijing and Hong Kong, the raw material is processed with cabochon and diamond powder. Since jade is not transparent, but has a fine luster, the cabochon is the form best suited. Traditionally jade is processed into slender figures, filigree images or thin-walled vessels. Sometimes this is referred to as jade carving. Thin slivers of jade are worn as pendants and jade bracelets. Round, cylindrical and flat shapes can be combines to make attractive necklaces. Any unwanted material is removed during the cutting process and the stone is then polished.
