Romans kept themselves entertained with various sports and whilst they were challenging, there are definitely a lot different to the activities undertaken today.
Such sports as Chariot Racing or Gladiator fights were very popular for this time and for many Romans, watching such an activity would diminish any bloodlust that some Romans definitely experienced and Gladiator fighting always resulted in at least one death, the loser.
There were many other famous sports that the Romans took part in and looking at the great ruins of the Coliseums, it shows exactly how far these sports were taken and to have a building of great historical value, must have meant something to the locals.
Top Fact: Religion clashes did prove to be a major factor amongst Christians and Catholics and this resulted in many Christians being fed to the lions which were seen as entertainment to many who did not believe in their preaching. It was not uncommon for this to occur during a very bloody and violent era.
