Pisa
The Leaning Tower of Pisa was intended to stand vertically and serve as a bell tower. But shortly after construction began in 1173 it started to lean, and its tilted status has made it one of the world’s most recognizable buildings. Also worth visiting in Pisa are the Piazza del Duomo, the Il Duomo, and National Museum (Museo Nazionale do San Matteo).

Tuscan and Umbrian Countryside
Made famous in recent years through books and movies, the Tuscan and Umbrian landscapes are full of vineyards and olive groves, with charming hill towns popping up around every curve. This part of Italy is not so much about the attractions as it is about the experience. A rental car and a sense of adventure are all you need to fully enjoy this area.

Siena
Siena thrived prior to the Renaissance, and the Italian Gothic and Romanesque architecture reflects that. Siena’s Il Duomo was built in the 12th century. The interior is stunning, with works of art embedded in the flooring.

Pompeii
15 miles south of Naples, Pompeiiis fascinating collection of ruins. The town was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D., and it was lost for 16 centuries until it was accidentally rediscovered. Today, it is one of Italy's leading tourist attractions. The villas at Pompeii paint an amazing picture of first century Roman life. Some of the most important ruins include the House of Vettii, the Villa dei Misteri, and the Forum.

The Amalfi Coast
If you have ever seen a movie set on the Italian coast, the Amalfi Coast is probably where it was filmed. Cliffs full of colorful buildings create a stunning backdrop for the water itself. The coast runs from Sorrento to Salerno.
