High-End Accommodations

Florence boasts some of the finest hotels in Italy, and if staying in one of them is within your budget, you will enjoy a sumptuous time in the Renaissance capitol of the world. The Savoy Hotel, which opened in 1896, is one of the most legendary. It is located just off the Piazza della Repubblica, two blocks from the Duomo. Also near the Duomo is the Hotel J and J, originally built in the 16th century as a monastery and the Hotel Monna Lisa, originally a Renaissance palazzo.

The Hotel Relais Santa Croce is located just a few blocks from the Palazzo Vecchio. It is housed in the 18th century Ciofi-Jacometti Palace, which has been renovated to return to its former splendor. The original architectural elements of the building remain intact, and care was taken to recover period furniture, fabrics, and frescos for it interior.

The Grand Hotel is located on Piazza Ognissanti on the Arno River. It is well known for gorgeous halls and salons. Located in the same area is the Westin Excelsior, housed in a former palace. The Hotel Regency is an intimate villa located on Piazza d’Azeglio. It is perhaps the most exclusive hotel in all of Florence.

The Villa La Vendetta is located across the Arno River near the Piazzale Michelangelo. It boasts amazing views of the city.

Mid-Priced Accommodations

The Bigallo Hotel is housed in a Renaissance building overlooking Piazza Duomo and the Baptistery. Hotel degli Orafi is located in an ancient Florentine residence, situated between the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio. Part of the complex dates back to the 13th century, and there are marvelous original frescos on the walls and ceilings.

Hotel Mario’s is two blocks from the rail station. Its building has been a hotel since 1872, and several of the rooms open out to a private garden. Hotel Ritz is located along the Arno River, within walking distance of the historical district. The word Ritz has a different meaning here, and this hotel is not as high-end as it sounds. It is family owned, comfortable, and reasonably priced for the location. The walls are hung with reproductions of Italian art.

The Borghese Palace Art Hotel is located just a few blocks from the Bargello National Museum and the Uffizi Gallery. It is housed in the eighteenth-century Borghese Palace, which has been fully renovated and recently reopened.

Across the Arno is the Hotel Villa Carlotta, a charming option built in the Edwardian style. It is located out of the historical district, but it is only a ten-minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio. Also across the river is the Penisone Annalena. It is a 10-minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio.

The Hotel Vasari was originally a monestary in the 16th century. The famous French poet Alfonse De Lamartine converted it into a gorgeous mansion in the 19th century. It was completely renovated in 1993, and it is located within walking distance of the city's most important sights. Hotel Casci is located near the Duomo, and the building dates back to the 14th century. Hotel Europa, also near the Duomo, is housed in a 16th century structure that has operated as a family-run hotel since 1925.
