The Palazzo Vecchio is by far the most famous and grand palace in Florence. Once home to the Medicis, it operates today as a government building, though much of it is open to the public. It dates back to the 13th century and it is architecturally marked by its imposing 308-foot tall tower. It contains numerous significant artworks, including Michelangelo’s Victory.

Just a short distance from the Duomo, the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi was home to Cosimo dei Medici before he moved to the Palazzo Vecchio. It is most famous for the Chapel of the Magi, which contains frescos by Benozzo Gozzoli.
