The climate of Ireland is based on its gentle southwesterly winds and the Gulf Stream. In general, the country experiences a mild, yet changeable, climate year round. Summers in Ireland are warm in temperature, while the winters tend to be significantly cooler. The seasons of spring and autumn are especially mild. The country of Ireland is renown for its rain, which falls throughout the entire year. The rain is light, however, especially in eastern Ireland. The west experience more rain and is subject to the full force of Atlantic storms. The storms typically appear in the late autumn and winter months, and are often accompanied by destructive winds as well as hail and snow. Raingear is a common article of clothing for the Irish.
