If you have a popup blocker, either a browser program or a downloaded toolbar, you definitely have a grip on the traditional popup windows that will show up on your computer. Unfortunately as our technology increases to include blockers for typical popup ads, companies are also increasing their technology to get their name out there. The first advance is messenger pop-ups. These are typical popup advertisements but are connected to instant messages rather than specific websites. For example, you are working on AIM and a company sends you a message with a popup attached to it. That popup advertisement may still come up because it did not come through your Internet browser.

Another new technology that is being used is a popup advertisement through spyware. Spyware interacts with certain sites and downloads onto your computer like viruses. Instead of shutting down operations on your computer, like viruses, spyware adds programs to your daily use. You may not even be surfing the Internet and a spyware program will send you popup window. The only way to get rid of this is to get rid of the spyware program. Another type of new technology is a floating ad. This ad is actually included into the download of certain freeware. Music download software is most notorious for including this. You can’t get rid of these popup ads because you agreed to them when you downloaded the program. The only way to get rid of these is to get rid of the original program.
