There are some different kinds of popup advertisements that you need to know about, so that you will not be surprised by some of things that show up on your computer monitor. Many times the worst thing about the popup advertisements is that they scare you because they happen so quickly and make you think you might have done something extremely wrong. The first type of popup advertisement is a cascade popup scheme. Cascade popup ads are most of the time associated with pornography, video game, and travel sites. When the first popup advertisement appears on the screen, be prepared for the next ten to twelve advertisements. Many times they will put about ten advertisements on your monitor, and for every ad that you shut down two more will show up. Sometimes the only way to get rid of the popup ads is to start clicking the close buttons, which will most of the time cause you to shut down the site you wanted to be at.

The second category or type of popup advertisements is the full screen version. You will receive a lot of these through nutritional pill sites and mortgage offers. The popup advertisement will come up on screen so large that it covers up all others screens and even your menu bar. Sometimes these full screen popup advertisements will also not have a close down button to shut them off. Usually the only way to close this advertisement down is use the special hot sequence that many of us have grown accustomed to, “Ctrl-Alt-Delete.” This will usually work for closing down the popup window, but will also completely shut down your browser, causing you to lose the website that you have been working on.

The third type of popup advertisement that you may come into contact with is a “back door” popup ad. This type of popup ad wants to accomplish the same goals as the other ads, but will not immediately seen as much annoying as the typical popup advertisements. These ads will show up underneath your window and you may have no idea that popup ads are slowing down your processor speed. Though not as annoying immediately, they cause the same problems as other popup windows eventually.
