The most common people that may use this kind of tool are families. A family content filter is beneficial whether you are protecting your 5-year-old daughter from accidentally stumbling upon a site that may contain violence that she wouldn’t understand, a 13-year old son from looking at pornographic images that may spark a downward spiral of addictions, or a 17-year old daughter from falling prey to an Internet predator. By simply adding a family content filter many of these negative situations can be avoided.
Also a religious institution or an education system may want to employ an Internet content filter. Both want to protect the children and staff that work on the computers at their facilities from images that don’t promote the moral ethics that they stand for. They also may want to protect the image and credibility of those that work at these institutions. Many staff members at churches can benefit simply from their congregations’ knowledge that they are unable to look at certain websites. It promotes an atmosphere of integrity and confidence.
Another place that an Internet content filter could be used is within any business. The business may have certain ethical reasons to not allow its employees to look at images or videos. The business may also want to discourage the use of chat programs and game sites so that their employees will stick to the tasks that they have been given.
