It’s an ordinary day, and you do the same old thing at the computer. Maybe you check your email. Maybe you click on the sports website to check the scores of last night’s game or on your investment website to find out how your stocks have done this last week. And then the unexpected happens – a pop-up with some pictures that you really didn’t want to see. One option is to just get a pop-up blocker that will make sure that it doesn’t happen to you again. But what if others using this computer happen to stumble upon (or purposefully go to) sites of this nature?

This could happen anywhere. This could be your own home computer that you share with your spouse and children. This could be a work computer that your fellow workers use as well, or connected to a network of computers that use the same Internet connection. As the responsible party for what happens on this Internet connection you must take into account the innocent or not-so-innocent actions that are taken by the people who also use this computer.

This is where a family filter or a general Internet content filter comes into action. It blocks offensive content from the eyes and minds of those that you don’t think should be seeing this, either while at work or at home. The family filter obviously connects with the home, but a general Internet content filter can be used almost anywhere.

But there are some questions out there like, what kind of stuff will the content filter block? Or who should use an Internet content filter? You may also wonder how the filter actually works and where you can get a filter.
