While skating in public parks and trails, you may come across volunteers with the National Skate Patrol. These volunteers—identifiable by bright red shirts with a NSP logo-- have passed tests that qualify them to assist new and experienced skaters by offering free braking clinics and giving helpful hints on how to skate peacefully with cyclists and other pedestrians. The organization began in New York City in 1992 and is now found in many major US cities.
