Not to be confused with state parks, skate parks are a popular place for the Gen-X crowd and other fearless dare-devils. Skate parks cater to the aggressive or trick skaters. These facilities can be indoor, with some boasting of over 30,000 square feet, to outdoor facilities. Many American West Coast and East Coast cities have skate parks incorporated into local, city recreational areas. Lots of these are free, though some charge a nominal fee. Some outdoor and indoor facilities are privately owned and offer memberships, usually around $100 a year. If you are not a member, expect to pay anywhere from $10 to $20 for all-day skating. What do you find at skate parks? The things that trick skaters dream about: half and quarter pipes, slant ramps, three-way pyramids and pools. Because this sort of skating involves a lot of risk, most skate parks require the participants to sign a wavier. Also, there is usually a minimum age requirement to be able to skate without parental supervision. Perhaps trick skating is not your thing, but it may be interesting to visit a skate park and be amazed at what can be accomplished on inline skates.
