Many suburban and metropolitan areas are reasonably safe for inline skating on streets or sidewalks. However, it is important that you check the local ordinances in your area. Some communities have placed a ban on inline skating because of isolated incidents of damage to public areas associated with trick skating and more notably, skateboarding. There are plenty of advocacy groups out there committed to the rights of inline skaters, especially for those who choose to commute to work using inline skates.
