It is one thing to read about falling, stopping and so forth. It is entirely another thing to have an expert teach you these techniques while you are on your skates in a safe environment. In line skating lessons are a highly recommended way to begin your adventure as an inline skater.
• Finding an instructor: There is a network of inline skating instructors, many of which have passed special certification requirements. A quick search online will help you find instructors available in your area. It is also helpful to inquire about lessons at your local inline skating shop or sporting goods store. Some local recreation departments even offer lessons.
• What to expect: The first thing you will probably do in your skating lessons is learning to walk around in your skates on a grassy area or carpeted area. Then expect to learn to fall down, get back up again, how to stand properly in skates, how to start skating, how to stop and do basic turns.
• How much do lessons cost: Expect to pay around $50 for group lessons and more than that for private or semi-private lessons. Of course, the cost depends on how many hours of instruction you will receive. Occasionally a skating store will offer free lessons. It never hurts to ask!
