Some people have compared buying a pair of inline skates to buying a car. You don’t want to show up at a sports store or specialty skate shop uninformed. To avoid the uncertainties of picking out inline skates, you may just decide to go to your local discount store and spend only $40 or $50 for a pair to try out the sport before sinking a lot of money into a nicer pair of inline skates. Given the facts, this is probably not a good idea either, because the quality of the skates may be so poor that you are not giving yourself a fair evaluation of inline skating. A few helpful facts on the different kinds of skates available (fitness, recreational, speed, aggressive and so forth) and the different options available on skates (wheel size, composition of the frame, type of buckles and straps, and so forth) can help you make a safe, comfortable and long-lasting investment in your inline skates.
