If you think that a hosted VoIP solution would best fit the needs of your company then you’ll need very little equipment; your host will handle the majority of the hardware requirements. However, if you wish to switch your standard phone system to a VoIP phone system, you’ll need to ensure that you possess several different items. As with a traditional phone system, your VoIP system will require a central device that manages your calls. That device will work much like a PBX in a traditional business phone system, so it’s an important piece of hardware. However, before spending money on an internet protocol PBX or a server, check your existing PBX. Many new PBX systems offer business owners the ability to use those systems in conjunction with VoIP technology with only minor changes, so it may not be necessary for you to buy additional hardware.


You’ll also need a data network of some type. If you’ve already established a network for your office computers, it’s at least possible that your current network will prove sufficient to support your VoIP system, but that’s something you’ll want to discuss with your VoIP service provider. VoIP is demanding on systems and data networks, so your current network may prove inadequate for VoIP. Unsurprisingly, you’ll also need phones. Again, however, you may find that it’s unnecessary for you to purchase new phones. If your employees already use digital phones, those phones should, at least initially, work with your VoIP system. Such savings are important if you’re considering a VoIP phone system for your business. A small VoIP phone system with basic features may cost $10,000.00 or more, while a large system with expanded features could run from $50,000.00 to $100,000.00.
