If a business decides to outsource document shredding then the process is quite simple. First, it will need to be decided if it is in the company’s best interest to shred on-site or off-site. Then, depending on the amount of material the company generates, how often the material needs to be shredded needs to be chosen. Most companies are flexible and allow the customer to choose how often such as, weekly, monthly, semi-annually or annually.
The company will supply the customer with secure bins and containers to hold the information in until the designated pick-up date. Containers range in size, shape and color to blend in well with other office equipment. The removal of paper clips, binder clips, staples or fasteners from my documents and files is not necessary. Manila envelopes and folders can also be shredded. To protect the quality of the paper being recycled, documents should be removed from three-ring binders.
When the designated pick up date arrives the company will come to the business and shred/destroy the material. Depending on if on-site or off-site shredding was chosen then the company will either shred material in your presence with mobile shredding units or transport the information collected in the designated bins and destroy it off-site. A certificate of destruction should be given to insure that all material has been disposed of as agreed. Pricing varies depending on the outsource company. Some companies charge by the weight of the material or by the number of bins that are filled.
