A business can choose to buy specific shredding equipment and do it themselves-which is costly or can outsource to a company that specializes in the destruction of sensitive information. Many companies specialize in document destruction and offer their clients options to how they would like to handle document destruction.
One option to destroy documents is on-site destruction. On-site destruction is when the business is given a secure container to place sensitive papers/information in until the outsourcing company brings a mobile shredding vehicle to the business and disposes of the documents and information on-site in your presence.
Off-site destruction is when a business is given secure containers to place sensitive material in to be picked up and taken off-site to be destroyed. Some businesses give the option of watching the material being destroyed on camera to ensure the customer that everything is being conducted with the utmost confidentiality. Whether on-site or off-site is chosen as a means to destroy information a certificate of destruction is provided to ensure that the documents have been properly destroyed.
