» Restaurants
Indianapolis offers world class dining of all types. A delicious gourmet meal can be had in the city for a very reasonable price. There are also plenty of places where one can splurge for some of the finest food anywhere. We’ll take a look at two restaurants, one with great value and one more extravagant, in each type of cuisine listed below.
American
Savers: Try ComedySportz Indianapolis (721
Massachusetts Ave.), where you can enjoy family-safe improvisational comedy and meals for around $10 per person.
Spenders: Check out Bistro 33 (located in the Indianapolis Marriott North at 3645 River Crossing Parkway), which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at prices ranging from $24 to $40 per plate.
Chinese
Spenders and Savers alike will enjoy P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, the only Chinese restaurant in the downtown area. With entrees ranging from $12 to $24, P.F. Chang’s boasts the world-famous lettuce wraps as one of their appetizers…a must-eat!
Greek
Savers: The Greek Islands Restaurant (906 S. Meridian St.) has been family-owned and operated for nearly 20 years and offers great entrees for just $10-$12.
Spenders: The Santorini Greek Kitchen (1417 E. Prospect St.) offers authentic Greek cuisine and American cuisine with a Greek twist. It was voted one of the top 25 restaurants in the city.
Italian
Savers: Iaria’s Italian Restaurant (317 S. College Ave.) has been family-owned and operated since 1933. They serve homemade southern Italian food and pizza, with most dished featuring their special homemade sauce.
Spenders: Buca di Beppo (multiple locations) offers a unique, family-style dining experience. They’ll even walk you through the kitchen on your way to your table, so you can see exactly what the chef is up to!
Mexican
Savers: Try Acapulco Joe’s Mexican Restaurant (365 N. Illinois St.) and you’ll be eating at the city’s first Mexican restaurant, featuring house specials and very reasonable prices.
Savers Again: Since there are no Mexican restaurants in Indianapolis that average more than $10-$12 per plate, we’ll give you another thrifty option. Check out El Sol De Tala (39 W. Jackson Place) for some of the city’s best salsa, flan and guacamole.
Seafood
Savers: The Bonefish Grill (4501 E. 82nd St.) offers a minimum of eight different fresh fish every day and is famous for their toppings and sauces, which customers can mix and match as they please.
Spenders: The Oceanaire Seafood Room (30 S. Meridian St.) features fresh fish flown in daily, with special entrees including Alaskan halibut and Copper River salmon. They also offer the rarest of delicacies, including Dover sole and bluefin tuna.
Steak
Savers: It’s hard to find inexpensive steak, but the Alcatraz Brewing Co. (49 W. Maryland St.) pulls it off. They also offer a number of other cuisines if steak isn’t to everyone’s taste.
Spenders: If you’re in Indianapolis and you’re looking for steak, you have to try Shula’s Steak House (50 S. Capitol Ave.). The world class restaurant offers certified Angus beef, fresh Florida seafood, lamb and poultry.
