While the majority of people moving into the Indianapolis area will choose to live in one of the suburbs, there are many attractive residential real estate possibilities in the downtown area.
The primary area in downtown is Center Township, which includes several older neighborhoods in addition to the entire downtown. There are eight other townships in Marion County which are primarily residential. The largest of these is Washington Township, an area that consists of older neighborhoods and homes, including the Governor’s Mansion. The Broad Ripple area, one of Indianapolis’ most popular, is also in Washington Township. Pike Township is another popular residential area near downtown Indianapolis.
These townships which make up the Indianapolis area are served by 10 public school districts, including Indianapolis Public Schools. There are also a number of private schools from which to choose.
