Indianapolis, Indiana: A Three-Day Vacation Guide
» Day Two
Yesterday, we planned the entire day for you. Today, it’s your turn to make the plans. We’ll give you several options for today, and you can choose what is more enjoyable for you. We’ll “package” the options together, but feel free to mix and match them as you see fit. Remember, it’s your vacation! Do all you can to enjoy it!
Option One: For the Sports Fan
If you love sports, Indianapolis is a great place to be. Depending on the season, there’s a chance you could take in one or even two games today, and there are many other locations that are great for sports fans. You can begin your day by visiting the NCAA Hall of Champions (700 W. Washington St.) or taking a tour of Victory Field (501 W. Maryland St.), home of minor league baseball’s Indianapolis Indians. Check to see if any of the teams have home games, and, if so, start your search for tickets: Indianapolis Colts (football), Indiana Pacers (basketball), Indiana Fever (women’s basketball), Indianapolis Indians (minor league baseball), FC Indiana (women’s soccer) or Indianapolis Ice (minor league hockey). For lunch, we recommend Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar (15 E. Maryland St.), and for dinner, Champps Restaurant (49 W. Maryland St.).
Option Two: For the Arts Fan
If the arts are your gig, there are plenty of great options in the city. You’ll want to start your day by visiting the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art (340 N. Senate Ave.) or the Indianapolis Museum of Art (4000 Michigan Rd.). Take your choice of any of the fine restaurants in the area for lunch, then head to the Eiteljorg Museum (if you didn’t visit there on day one; 500 W. Washington St.) for a look at American Indians and Western art. For dinner, try the new Music Mill (3720 E. 82nd St.), which features great food and fantastic live music.
Option Three: For the Historian
Are you a history buff? Indianapolis has a lot to offer you, as well. Begin your day at the centrally located Indiana State Capitol, a spectacular building at 200 W. Washington St. From there, you can head northwest to the Indiana History Center (intersection of Ohio St. and West St.) and Military Park, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. If you want to head east and northeast, you have more choices. You can see Monument Circle and the Eli Lilly Civil War Museum (see information above), the Indiana World War Memorial (431 N. Meridian St.), and, farther north, the home of the 23rd President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison (1230 N. Delaware St.). Other historic landmarks include the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial (650 W. Washington St.), the Crispus Attucks Museum (intersection of MLK, Jr. St. and 12th St.), and the Indiana State Library (140 N. Senate Ave.). For your meals, keep an eye out for the fun cafes and eateries in the museums you’re visiting!
