Though one of the last large islands in the world to be discovered, this creation of volcanic activity was eventually found and inhabited by the Vikings and some other people groups. Moving through a series of situations in which they were free, governed, and free again, Icelanders finally issued their country constitution in 1918.
The people of Iceland are independent people, proud of their heritage and all that it includes. They are also proud of their food and natural resources – such as spas and fishing. In fact, this fishing provides most of their GNP for each year. They are one of the ten richest countries in the entire world and have one of the lowest unemployment rates in all of Europe.
