HVAC Training Overview

Because heating and air conditioning often occur from the same systems, the field is commonly reduced to the acronym HVAC.

 

With certification and training as a heating and air conditioning mechanic, jobs are available in installation, servicing, and repairing heating and cooling systems in commercial establishments as well as residences. These systems play a critical role in the lives of people everywhere, and require technicians to have the ability to work accurately to precise specifications, and to deal with many different types of equipment, such as air conditioning equipment, gas lines, water lines, oil heating systems, electric systems, solid fuel systems and more. 

 

HVAC training will enable you to find jobs with HVAC contractors, HVAC service companies, building owners, property management companies, HVAC manufacturers, HVAC wholesale suppliers, mechanical engineering firms of HVAC manufacturer's reps.

Heating and air-conditioning systems consist of many mechanical, electrical, and electronic components, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats, and switches. In central heating systems, for example, a furnace heats air that is distributed throughout the building via a system of metal or fiberglass ducts.

HVAC technicians must be able to maintain, diagnose, and correct problems throughout the entire system.

Because of the increasing sophistication of HVAC systems, employers prefer to hire those with HVAC training. Many mechanics and installers, however, still learn the trade informally on the job.
