But, the magazine concluded that even the best air cleaner was a questionable investment. Researchers say you can clean you homes air cheaply, but doing simple things, like:
• Consider getting rid of your carpeting and rugs.
• Use outdoor venting fans in the kitchen and bathroom, and open your windows regularly.
• Put your mattresses and pillows in mite-proof covers.
• Ban smokers from the house, put out the candles and incense, and keep wood-burning fires to a minimum.
The complete results of the air-purifier testing are in the October issue of Consumer Reports. Sharper Image did not respond to our request for comment.
