What should I consider in buying a unit air conditioner?

Before even glancing at the air conditioners at the store, you must decide the following things:

□ What room will house the air conditioner?

This should be in a central location in your house, somewhere central to the area that you need cooled.

□ In what window will you place the air conditioner?

Again, pick a window based on how air will flow from it. Is the window on the right or left side of the room? Most air conditioners blow better on the right or left side because of fan design. Figure out which type you will need to blow the air towards the center of the room.

□ What size is the window?

Make certain that you have the window's dimensions correct. Measure and re-measure, if you must. You do not want to buy an air conditioner to find that it does not fit in the window you bought it for!

□ What size is the room?

Measure the length, width, and height of the room; then multiply them. Use this to determine what size air conditioner you will need. You want your air conditioner to be able to chill the room you want.
