» What features should I look for in an Attendance System?
The attendance systems industry has grown to the point that one time and attendance systems company reported over $11 million in sales in 1997 alone, representing nearly half of Fortune 1000 companies. The time and attendance systems industry has expanded this much through diversification—by adapting its products to meet a wide range of client needs.
The basic time clock will simply track employee hours; the employee will clock in upon arrival and clock out upon leaving work for the day. These basic time clocks will usually have a large memory to maintain employee records and will total and print employee records on request. This basic model is adequate for many businesses, but there is a wide range of possible additional features, including:
- The ability to distinguish between regular hours and overtime hours.
- The ability to calculate wages as well as employee hours.
- The ability to track production and to put production results side-by-side with employee hours for easy comparison.
- One database to which information from several different worksites is transmitted and in which employee records from all worksites are compiled.
- Basic or complex security utilizing PIN numbers or other features designed to prevent tampering with the time clock.
These features are only a brief sampling of the complex systems that many large corporations employ. The attendance system industry is growing along with the corporate imagination.
