The fees vary greatly by screening agency, and by type and level of screening you request. One company offers a full-service package at $99 to $149, or just a criminal county search for $18 per county. Another company offers ala carte pricing, with a nationwide criminal search for $20; education verification for $14; credit check for $10; and so on. Still another company charges $12 for education verification, $16 for professional license verification, and $25 for a nationwide criminal check.

Of course, there are also out-of-pocket expenses, such as reference, court, transcript, state registry, central repository, special access, and disbursement fees. Employers, schools, institutions, data services, and governmental agencies also sometimes charge extra fees for gathering such information.
