It is very important for a rider to wear boots when riding a horse. Other shoes, such as tennis shoes or sandals may not only be slippery in the stirrups, they also lack the level of protection for your feet that boots offer.
There are many different kinds of boots available for the varying world areas as well as the purposes for riding. Equestrian competitors will probably wear a different type of boot than someone just out for fun. Some riding boots look exactly like the typical “cowboy” style boots that have always been popular, while others are high lace-up boots or ankle-high paddock boots. Knee-high leather boots are also an excellent choice. However, whatever style of boot you decide upon, make sure that it has either leather or rubber heals and the boots are sturdy and waterproof.
