Equestrian Helmets

A helmet is a crucial (perhaps one of the most crucial) piece of equipment for all riders. Its job is to protect the head (and thus, the brain) in situations of falls or other accidents. Although some riders don’t want to wear a helmet because it holds in heat or messes up their hair, or because they naively think that the chances of them getting hurt aren’t very high, the padding of a helmet can make the difference between a simple “fall off and get back on the horse” situation and a trip to the hospital or something much worse. The helmet that you wear should fit snugly but still have ample ventilation.

There are a variety of styles of helmets available, from helmets that look like cowboy hats to fancy competition fashions. Derby caps also are available and give a traditional “English rider” look. However, whatever style you choose for your helmet, the important thing is that it be a certified helmet – a flexible hat is not going to protect your head. Wear a helmet that will keep you safe!
