· The size: You know the size of your room the rear projection TV will go. Take measurements so you will get the right size. Or else you may find yourself rearranging the room to accommodate the unit.

· Go with HDMI: Try to find a unit with HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)-compliant DVI input. This is the wave of the future so invest in it now. Plus it is compatible with HDTV tuners.

· Display types: When shopping for a unit, see if the store has more than one displayed and working with various types of displays so you can see how each one looks with a different input device hooked to it.

· Black scenes: If at all possible, bring a DVD along that has some dimly lit night scenes. You are looking for how much clarity you can see from dark scenes.

· Spread out: When you stand in front of the TV, spread out and see the screen from more than one angle. Can you see the image well or does it fade away?
