HDTV is an abbreviation that stands for High Definition Television. HDTVs are made in a digital format, as opposed to televisions that were made in the past with an analog format. This digital format allows HDTVs to produce a crystal clear, high resolution picture as well as sound that is also enhanced digitally. The improved sound and picture are displayed in a widescreen format within the television itself. HDTV can also take the form of the way a television show or movie is produced. When the different aspects of HDTV are working together, the ultimate viewing experience is achieved. However, not all the components of HDTV are needed to improve the quality of the show or movie. The viewing experience is enhanced and heightened even with just one of the aspects. A HDTV is also compatible with the analog signals that are still put out by some television stations. But, in order to view the high definition digital signal, there must be a high definition television to receive it. While there are some programs on television now that are specifically for high definition televisions, the same programs are also available to be viewed on another channel in analog format for those who do not have access to a high definition television.
