DVRs do so much more than just simply recording a television show. They are packed with the latest and greatest features that are sure to interest you.

·        Recording: Remember how neat it was when the VCR first came out and you could program it to record a TV show you were going to miss? DVRs take this technology to the next level. Say you are going to miss the first fifteen minutes of your favorite show. With DVRs you don’t have to wait until the show is over to rewind the tape and watch it, because it is recording digitally. Recorded shows can be viewed at any time, even while it is still taping. Now, you can watch the entire show, just fifteen minutes behind schedule!
·        Pausing Live TV: How many times have you set down to watch television when the phone rings, and before you know it the show is over. One of the most advertised features of DVRs is the ability to pause live TV while you answer the phone, take care of the kids, cook dinner, get something to eat, etc. The term “pausing live television” is somewhat misleading because what you are basically doing is recording a program without any notice. It works the same way as programmed recording except that when you hit the “pause” button, the screen is freeze-framed and the recording begins. Then when you are ready to resume watching, it starts back at the point where you left off.
·        Live TV Buffer: Most DVRs have a “live TV buffer” that is constantly recording and usually saving the last hour of programming. This is an interesting and convenient feature. If someone was watching a program or movie and you came into it thirty minutes late, you could “rewind” the show and start it over at the beginning. This only works for the last hour of footage from the current channel, and the buffer time starts over every time the channel is changed.
·        DVD Recording: Many of the DVR sets also have a DVD drive that enables the you to “copy” your original recorded programs onto a DVD. This way you could put all the episodes of one particular show on a DVD and have it saved. This is especially good if you need to free up some recording space on the DVR’s drive. Now you can burn those shows onto a DVD without having to delete them.
