Before you choose to buy a DVR, you first need to figure out what you are going to use it for and how much you are willing to spend on the system. DVR sets can range from $200-$1000 depending on how much disk space it has for recording. Most DVRs have anywhere between 30 to 320 hours of taping capability. If this sounds a little too much for you pocketbook, you might want to look to your cable or satellite provider. Most are now offering packages that will provide you with a DVR set for a monthly charge, usually around $20. The set is not yours to keep. It remains property of the company and is only “leased” to you. The advantage of doing this is that there are no expensive up front cost since the monthly charge is included in your bill. Also, many of the cable and satellite companies offer the latest DVR models with the best features available.
