In the age of computers and digital “this and thats”, it’s nice to have a basic understanding and knowledge of how something works. DVR technology, for the most part, is pretty easy to comprehend. To put it in simple terms, a DVR is a device that works much like a VCR (video cassette recorder), but instead of recording in the analog format, DVRs record in a digital format. Television signals can come in through cable, satellite, or antenna. Non-digital signals (cable and antenna) are converted from analog to digital by the DVR set for recording and then returned to the analog format and sent to the television screen. One of the most appealing aspects of DVRs is the thought of no longer having to use those bulky videocassette tapes to record shows. A DVR eliminates this by recording information straight to a built-in hard drive. This explains why you might hear them referred to as HDRs or Hard Disk Recorders.
