Security cameras are a quick and easy installation job, but first, you should determine exactly what area you want to monitor. At this stage, you may also want to hire a security consultant to look at your home or business and point out vulnerable spots or locations where you should place your cameras. Choose locations where you can place a security camera at the proper distance and angle from the area it monitors.
Follow the installation instructions included in your owner’s manual, but also use common sense. If you have an electric camera, for instance, make sure you install it near an electric outlet.
Next, drill pilot holes and secure the camera to the wall. Hopefully, there is not much wiring, but you will need to connect the wiring. Then, hide as much of the wiring as possible to decrease the likelihood of your camera being vandalized.
Make sure the camera is turned on, and then go to your monitor, and plug it into the outlet as well. Hopefully, you will already be receiving video. You may need to adjust the dials on your monitor to improve reception, but otherwise you are finished. Connect the VCR as needed, press record, and test the system to make sure it is working correctly. If you have any problems, check the Troubleshooting section of your owner’s manual and/or call the manufacturer’s customer service number.
