Light is an essential element to having a home where the residents feel safe. This need for light is inside and outside in areas such as your doorways, walkways, hallways, and stairs. There are several different types of motion detectors available that will help provide the light needed for a safer home.

• Outdoor Motion Detectors – An outdoor motion detector triggers lights to come on when motion in a certain range occurs. This range is normally 40 to 50 feet. This type of detector is used to scare away potential intruders and to provide lighting needed for homeowners returning to their home in the dark.
• Indoor Motion Detectors – Indoor motion detectors use infrared sensors to alert you to changes in the heat or movement in a certain space. Indoor motion detectors can be activated with a home security company to alert the police when motion is detected within the home.
• Pet Immune Detectors – The pet immune detector works the same as the standard detector except that they ignore any object within a specified height and weight range. The pet immune detector eliminates false alarms in motion detectors that are triggered by a pet entering the area. However, pets crawling on your furniture could cause a false trigger.
• Announcement Motion Detectors – The announcement motion detector alerts you by a recorded message when someone is within a two-mile radius of your home. Some systems allow you to monitor activity from a remote location. There are also detectors that allow you to speak to the person who has activated the detector through the base system.
• Ceiling Mounted Motion Detectors – There are motion detectors designed to be mounted on your ceiling. By mounting the detector on your ceiling you are able to cover an entire room. The ceiling mounted detector should be mounted in a corner of the room. They work the same as any indoor detector by alerting you or the police if movement or a heat range is detected.
• Barking Dog Detectors – The barking dog sensor announces movement in the armed area of your home by the sound of a barking dog. This sound is designed to deter a home invader.
• Wireless Motion Detectors – The wireless motion detector works from a battery, which means, it will be working even when you do not have power. They use the same infrared technology but can be mounted without a single wire. Typically, the wireless motion detector is more expensive but offers the latest technology available.
• Driveway Motion Detectors – The driveway motion detector alerts you if a person or automobile passes by a transmitter placed near the entrance of your driveway. This detector can also be placed by a door to alert parents if a child attempts to leave the home.
• Spy Motion Detectors – The spy motion detector offers several features. Not only will it detect movement but can notify the homeowner via their phone or pager. This detector also allows a homeowner to record a message that will be played to ward off intruders. The spy motion detector can also be used to record movement on a camera. You can view this captured movement on your VCR. The spy motion detector can even be mounted behind a wall.
