After your computer desk is set up where you want it, you want to make sure it is not only set up at the location but set up to use properly. What good would it do to have a computer desk and develop poor health because either you weren’t using it correctly, or the desk wasn’t set up to be used properly.

Remember, you may spend considerable amount of time sitting at your desk so you need to be sure it conforms to your body positioning. The most serious injuries are a result of bad ergonomic designed desks. If your desk is not designed with your body position in mind, you can suffer discomfort, muscle aches, and worst carpel tunnel. Here are some tips on how to get the most from your computer desk:

Good seating: In order to protect the back you need a good chair. This chair has to be dynamically catered to your back. You should have a chair with a back to it so you can lean back and be comfortable. Make sure to adjust the backrest so it rest against your head and upper back. Make sure to adjust the armrests so your arms rest on them in a natural position. Also make sure to raise your chair high enough, but not too high. Your feet need to touch the floor.

Monitor position: If your monitor is too high, it will put a strain on your neck muscles. Your monitor should be positioned so your head does not have to tilt up or down. That’s why when you purchase your computer desk, make sure it has an adjustable shelf on top so you can position the monitor to the proper height when you are seated. Also, use an anti-glare/anti-radiation filter to help reduce eye problems.

Hand position: When you work, make sure you keep your wrists flat and straight in relation to your forearms. It is best to use an ergonomic keyboard for this purpose.
