A wine cellar’s purpose is to store wine in a secure regulated environment. Besides the basic operations of the cooling unit, much relating to wine cellars is relative to a homeowner’s preference.

A wine cellar can be used similarly to a library or study. The purpose of a library is to have a room set aside for the finer things in life, like silence, study, literature, business, and reflection. The wine cellar has a similar mystique. The wine cellar holds bottles of wine that are more than just bottled beverages. A wine cellar holds memories. It holds memories from the birth of a child to last year’s Christmas gift. Like the study, a wine cellar can be a place to escape to or if it is a simple wall or closet unit, it can be like a vault into the past, just like a bookshelf.

The point to having a wine cellar is really up to the homeowner. Depending on taste and finances the wine cellar can be as simple or as central as you want it to be.
