Choosing the right subcontractors can be the hardest job you will have as the contractor. The following are some tips of what to look for in a subcontractor:
- Ask for recommendations. If you know of anyone who has built a home before or who has recently hired a subcontractor, ask them for recommendations. Unfortunately, there are some horror stories out there, and your friend’s advice might help you avoid that nightmare.
- Check for ratings. Go online and check for critiques of subcontractors in your area. They could be very helpful in the choosing process.
- Look at previous work. When you have a subcontractor in mind, ask to see some of their previous work. If the opportunity arises, ask the homeowners what they thought of that subcontractor.
- Don’t be afraid to be picky. Remember, this is your home that we are talking about, not some minor investment. Don’t be afraid to be meticulous when it comes to checking out subcontractors. It could save you a lot of headaches down the road.
